Advent calendars are a great visual item for children of all ages to count down the days until Christmas day. Everyday they get to open a single door and get the prize from inside.  I have seen prizes from little chocolates ( which are most popular), small toy items and even coin money. No matter the prize the kids get excited everyday for this next door to open and they look forward to the day after, when they can open yet another door.
